Your wedding day should be filled with happy tears, big hugs, unforgettable memories, and plenty of dancing. Not blisters, sweaty clothes, or uncomfortable chafing!

After photographing countless weddings, I’ve learned that some of the most helpful wedding-day advice isn’t necessarily glamorous. In fact, a few of my favorite tips might sound a little odd at first, but trust me, your future self will thank you.

From keeping cool during outdoor portraits to making it through the last song on the dance floor, here are some of my favorite comfort essentials to help you enjoy every minute of your wedding day.

Tips For the Bride: Comfort Is Always in Style!

1. Long, breathable shorts under your dress

Let’s talk about something nobody wants to think about on their wedding day: thigh chafing! Between walking down the aisle, greeting guests, posing for portraits, and dancing the night away, your legs are going to get a workout. A pair of lightweight, breathable shorts that extend to your knees can make a WORLD of difference. Look for a comfortable, seamless pair that won’t bunch up under your dress. Trust me, your thighs will thank you!

2. Bring a second pair of comfy shoes

Those gorgeous heels might complete your bridal look, but your feet deserve a little vacation, too! Pack a comfortable pair of flats, sandals, or sneakers for family portraits, outdoor photos, and especially the dance floor. You don’t want sore feet distracting you from celebrating with your favorite people. Bonus tip: Break in your shoes before the wedding day to avoid unexpected blisters. We all know how blisters can ruin a night of fun!

3. A personal fan is your new best friend

Especially for summer weddings, a small handheld fan can be a total lifesaver. Between the excitement, warm weather, layers of clothing, and all those beautiful outdoor portraits, things can heat up quickly. Keep a fan nearby while getting ready or ask someone in your bridal party to bring one along for photos. A little breeze can help you cool down, feel refreshed, and keep those happy tears from turning into a full-on sweat session.

4. Extra face powder for quick touch-ups

Your makeup artist works hard to make you look absolutely beautiful. So let’s help that gorgeous makeup last! Keep a little setting powder and a few blotting papers in your bridal emergency kit. A quick touch-up between portraits or before entering the reception can help reduce shine and keep your makeup looking fresh. Just remember to blot away excess oil before applying powder for a smoother finish.

Tips For the Groom: Stay Fresh, Look Sharp!

1. Pack a few fresh undershirts

A wedding day can be surprisingly busy, especially if you’re wearing a suit, vest, or multiple layers. Having a couple of clean undershirts tucked away gives you the option to freshen up before the ceremony or reception. It’s a simple way to feel more comfortable and confident throughout the day. Just make sure they’re the right color and fit for your wedding-day attire.

2. A handkerchief is a must-have

Happy tears? Sweaty forehead? Need to lend your bride a tissue during the ceremony? A handkerchief has you covered! Keep one tucked in your jacket pocket for those unexpected moments. It’s practical, classic, and makes for a sweet little detail in your groom portraits, too.

3. Dancing shoes for the reception

You’ve made it through the ceremony, family photos, and formal portraits. Now it’s time to PARTY! Keep a comfortable pair of shoes nearby so you can hit the dance floor without worrying about sore feet. Whether they’re clean sneakers, loafers, or your favorite broken-in shoes, comfort makes it much easier to celebrate until the very last song.

Pro Tip: A Little Comfort Goes a Long Way!

My favorite wedding-day advice is simple: Don’t let the little uncomfortable things steal your attention from the big, beautiful moments.

Pack your comfort essentials, let your wedding party help with the little details, and give yourself permission to enjoy the day exactly as it unfolds.

Because the best wedding photos happen when you’re relaxed, comfortable, laughing, and completely present with the people you love. And if that means wearing sneakers under your wedding dress or keeping a fan close by, I’m all for it!
